How to Use Your Cellphone to Scan Documents You Need to Email

Yes, You Can Do It – And It’s Easier Than You Think!

Have you ever needed to send a copy of your ID, a bill, or a form—but didn’t have a scanner or printer at home? Good news: you can use your cellphone to scan and email documents in just a few steps!

Here’s a simple guide to help you do it, whether you have an iPhone or an Android phone.

What You’ll Need:

• Your smartphone

• A good light source (like a lamp or window)

• A flat surface (like a table)

Step-by-Step for iPhone Users: Using the Notes App

1. Open the Notes app.

2. Tap the square with a pencil to start a new note.

3. Tap the camera icon, then select “Scan Documents.”

4. Hold your phone over the document. It will automatically scan when it detects the page.

5. Tap “Save” when you’re done.

6. Tap the share icon (the box with the arrow pointing up).

7. Select Mail or Gmail, type in the recipient’s email, and hit Send!

Step-by-Step for Android Users: Using Google Drive (works on most Androids)

1. Open the Google Drive app.

2. Tap the + (plus sign) at the bottom right.

3. Select “Scan.”

4. Take a photo of the document.

5. Tap “Checkmark” to save.

6. Tap the three dots next to your file, then select “Send a copy” or “Share.”

7. Choose Email, type the email address, and send it!

Pro Tips:

• Use natural light and make sure the paper is flat.

• If the writing is hard to read, you can zoom in or re-scan.

• Want to scan multiple pages? Both apps let you add more pages before saving or sending.
